I'm a former external, now full-time in-house DPO. New challenges, new experiences!

🧯A big eye-opener lately has been realising how much firefighting there is, leaving little (no?) time to stay up to date. Why is that?

Because there's no solid foundation to prevent the fires in the first place. 🔥

In my view, it's all about the lack of a solid foundation in the privacy and data protection work. Hundreds or even thousands of SharePoint groups, files and folders. Tons of duplicates. File names that don't make sense. Empty never-ending nested folders. Outdated routines (that few follow anyway) and templates (way more complex than they need to be).

😵‍💫 Colleagues who keep asking you the same questions and can't find the relevant information or documentation on the intranet – how could they, with that mess described above?

Some would say this isn't a DPO's job. I disagree.

Building that foundation is crucial; it'll help you as DPO – and it's exactly what I'm focusing on now. I'm now documenting my new full-time DPO journey and look forward to sharing it with you underway!
